Last year, Arthur Aghajanian invited me to be a guest on the Visually Sacred Podcast. It’s a podcast about religion, the arts, the visual and the wonder it evokes. A podcast I’ve long admired and listened to, so it was a true privilege to be invited to be a guest on it.

Arthur and I had a wonderful conversation about the multifacetted presence of art and religion in contemporary Netherlands – and the episode is now published online.

We discussed a great many things: among others the Mary Magdalene exhibit I curated for Museum Catharijneconvent, Egbert Modderman’s depiction of this enigmatic saint, Isa van Lier’smagnificent Lumina temple she showed at Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Hilma af Klint’s visionary art, and the contemporary art intervention that brought together Duane Hanson’s Derelict Woman (collection Centraal Museum) and a late medieval crucifixion, again at Museum Catharijneconvent.
