VCS: proverbs 4

Last year, when I spent a scholarship week at the marvellous Gladstone’s Library, I worked on a mini-exhibition for the Visual Commentary on Scripture website. This is a fantastic project, which asks scholars from around the world to curate three works of art that together reflect and comment on a Bible passage. I was asked to focus on Proverbs 4, and did so via an exhibition of artworks from Museum Catharijneconvent, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and an installation on view in 2018 in the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. For me, these works all highlight a different aspect of the selected Bible passage, which made it an enriching experience to work on this online exhibition. I truly hope these artworks will do the same for you.

The entry on the VCS website consists of three individual commentaries with each artwork and a comparative commentary based on all three artworks.

You can find the mini-exhibition on the VCS site, with the title “Get Wisdom.”
And, while you’re there: the website is a tremendous resource, with a terrific zoom-function on the artworks. Enjoy!
